At Envirotech, our work doesn’t stop when we leave site.
Across the business, our colleagues give their time, experience and energy to causes that matter to them and the communities in which they live. Whether that’s supporting local charities, coaching sports teams, volunteering with youth organisations or raising money for good causes, these are the stories that reflect who we are as people.
This month we’d like to introduce Mick Anderson, one of our Estates Managers based in the North of the country, whose dedication to the Army Cadet Force reflects a lifetime of service and mentorship.
After leaving the Army Reserves in 2021, Mick joined the Army Cadet Force, where he now serves as Detachment Commander and Instructor for the Excelsior Academy Newcastle & Ponteland Detachment.
Speaking about his role, Mick says:
“My primary role is running and supporting two detachments totalling 42 cadets aged 12 to 17, with 4 adult volunteers, we teach, mentor, support and encourage the cadets through the cadet syllabus.”
The syllabus covers drill, military knowledge, keeping active, first aid, shooting, fieldcraft, map reading, expeditions, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and communication skills, delivered through drill nights every Monday and Wednesday, three weekend camps and an annual camp.
Beyond the weekly syllabus, the detachments take part in community engagement events such as charity bag packs, remembrance parades, care home visits and local fairs, alongside one-off opportunities including battlefield tours, national and regional sports and cadet exchange schemes.
Many of the cadets come from challenging backgrounds, and for some, the structure, mentorship and sense of belonging the detachment provides can make a lasting difference.
